Fatoumatta Ceesay

Fatoumata Ceesay is currently the Strategic Communications Specialist at
the United States Embassy in Banjul. Prior to this role, she served as the
Strategic Content, Press, and Media Coordinator at the Embassy.
Fatoumata began a career in Broadcasting at the National broadcaster of The
Gambia; The Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS), where she
progressed from Announcer to Assistant Producer, ultimately becoming a
Senior News Editor and News Anchor for radio and television. During her
tenure at GRTS, she hosted tough current a+airs programs on both radio and
television.
Ms Ceesay’s experience spans from work as data entry clerk and a teacher
before joining the media. She also served as President, journalism Association
Students Association, University of The Gambia. She holds a B. Sc in Journalism and Digital Media from the University of The Gambia.

Jainaba Faye

Jainaba Faye is currently heading The Gambia Country Office of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA). She is a programme management specialist with years of professional experience in delivering governance, democracy, rule of law and human rights programmes in The Gambia.

Ms Faye previously worked at the British High Commission, Banjul (2017 – 2023) as Political and Economic Affairs Officer where she provided political and policy analysis to shape the UK government’s approach to The Gambia. She also led the design and implementation of bilateral programmes supporting the strengthening of governance institutions in The Gambia at a time the country had just ushered in a democratic governance after 22 years of dictatorship.

In June 2024, Jainaba was the recipient of the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Award for Democratic Governance at The Gambia National Youth Awards. This is for her work in strengthening governance. She was also recognised in 2013 by the Moremi Initiative as one of the 25 most outstanding emerging young women leaders in Africa. She holds a Master’s Degree in Diplomacy and International Affairs and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Finance.

Fatou Lamin Jeng

Fatou currently serves as one of the climate advisors to the United Nations Secretary General
Antonio Guterres. She also sits on the advisory panel of the United Nations Early Warning System
For All Initiative, and founded Clean Earth Gambia, one of the biggest youth-led environmental NGOs in The Gambia.
Ms Jeng co-led the Women and Gender working group of the United Nations Framework
Convention on Climate Change Youth Constituency (YOUNGO), where she led the programmes and policy submissions on gender and climate change to the UNFCCC from COP23- COP27. In 2020, she received the National Student Leadership Award by the President of The Gambia.
Her organisation, Clean Earth Gambia has mobilised and worked with over 5,000 young Gambians in the protection of the environment by conducting a series of capacity-building training on climate crises. In collaboration with Future
Proof NGO under the Banjul City Council, they planted over 12,000 coconut trees at Banjul Beaches between 2020 and 2021, due to the
city’s vulnerability to sea-level rise, plus a further 35,000 trees planted as an organisation.
Her over 10 years’ experience in the climate change education, advocacy, and gender space, Fatou’s work has been featured in The New York Times, BBC World News and Radio, The
Independent, The Guardian, Deutsche Welle (DW), Thomson Reuters, Skye News, East African Times
and more. Her organisation has worked with the government of The Gambia and other development partners like UNICEF in
hosting several beach clean-ups and climate education programmes. With support from UNICEF Gambia and The Gambian Government, Clean Earth Gambia organised the First National Children and Youth Conference on Climate Change in July 2024.
